Drones, also known as unmanned aircraft system UAS, were once presumed to be luxury devices because of their relatively high price as well as the fact that they were initially created for military use.
As time passes by, drones have become increasingly popular for both commercial and personal use. Undoubtedly, some people merely fly drones for fun, and some would employ drones to generate income.
Because drones belong to the category of hybrid devices that are integrated with a communication module for connecting to a public communication network or for radiocommunications utilizing a band up to 420 GHz. (i.e., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ANT, NFC, Zigbee, WPT, Qi, RFID, LoRA, NB-IoT, GSM, 3G, 4G LTE, 5G).
Therefore, it shall be certified by SIRIM-QAS under the CMA ACT 1998, Communication & Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000 to ensure compliance with MCMC Technical Codes & Certification Requirements.
If you are a manufacturer, assembler or someone who owns a drone you will need to apply for Compliance Approval or also known as Type Approval. The applicant shall have a registered company in Malaysia with a valid registration number under Registration of Company (ROC) or Registration of Business (ROB) of the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM).
The objective of obtaining the certification is to ensure that the device is in compliance with the specified requirements of MCMC Technical Code/ Specification/ Standard/ Technical Checklist/ Technical Declaration as well as to give confidence to interested parties that the product fulfils specified requirements.

Whenever you buy or import drones that meet SIRIM’s restrictions from outside Malaysia, you need to apply for a SIRIM permit for it to clear customs and for you to legally use it in Malaysia. Below shows TARIFF CODE for drone importation.
